You know you’re in a different retail world when a decent holiday sales season still leads to cost-cutting at Macy’s.
After posting a 3.6 percent comp-store sales increase in December, the company announced that it will close stores in Mesa, AZ; Overland Park, KS; Florissant, MO; Irondequoit, NY; and Murray, UT.

Bigger isn’t always better—better is better. At least that was the theme of Kimco Realty Corp.’s annual Investor Day. The company plans on continuing to sell assets that do not fit a top-of-market strategy and a plan to simplify what had become a very complicated structure of joint venture partnerships, etc.

Given that the upcoming ICSC New York National Conference, being held in New York City on Dec. 9 and 10, is the association’s second largest meeting of the year (Las Vegas, of course, is the largest), it shouldn’t be surprising that it has in fact become a mini-RECon, attracting attendance from more than just the Northeast.
